Keep Your Home Child-Proof with Homeowners Insurance, Virginia!
One of the most delightful things about young children is their natural curiosity about the world around them. Unfortunately, housing and furniture seems to have been designed for adults, and designers often ignore the needs of children. With our homeownersinsurance, Virginia parents will feel much safer knowing that their home is covered if an accident should happen! Many claims on home insurance result from damage caused by children, but more worrying are the numbers of children who are injured at home. Let’s look at some of the dangers for children that can be found in many homes, and consider ways of making a poorly designed home safer for children.
• Electrocution. Often electric outlets are fitted low on walls where they are accessible to small children; fit covers over outlets so that children cannot poke objects into open sockets.
• Falls. To avoid children playing and falling on stairs, fit child-safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs. Bunk beds are hazardous for small children; ensure that any bunk bed is fitted with safety rails.
• Strangulation. Blind cords and curtain tassels can form loops that entangle a small child and cause strangulation; fit windup devices or cleats that can hold cords and tassels so that they don’t dangle dangerously.
• Cutting. Store scissors, knives and other sharp tools in drawers rather than on open counter tops.
Reducing risks in your home will make it a safer place for your own children and for their friends who visit. If a visiting child is ever seriously injured on your property, the liability component of your home insurance can help protect you financially, but no parent would ever want to have to make that claim!
